As I always explain to my patients, the prevention of diseases and strokes falls on each person and part of their habits and lifestyle.
Although one, as a specialist, can provide advice and attend professionally to each person who requires it, prevention is made up of daily acts that only the patients themselves can adopt. So today I want to share some tips.
What is a stroke?
Let us remember that the brain is continuously irrigated by blood because its operation requires a large amount of oxygen that reaches it through the cerebral arteries.
In that sense, a stroke occurs when those arteries rupture and blood spills into the brain; but also when the arteries become clogged by atherosclerosis plaques and that space in the brain dies.
Hence, a person who has suffered a stroke may suffer a serious disability because it will be difficult for him to speak, he will not be able to concentrate, he will have problems with memory and activities such as reading or writing will be difficult for him.
Other symptoms of a stroke
- Dificulty to walk.
- Sudden dizziness and loss of balance.
- Confusion to speak or understand.
- Sudden difficulty seeing in one or both eyes.
- Numbness or weakness in the face, arms, or legs.
- Headache with no known cause.
Of course, the effects of a stroke can be different for each person and depend on where exactly in the brain the accident occurred and how much damage there is.
For this reason, it is important that people are aware of the seriousness of this type of illness and take action now.
